Elton John Live in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Reviews
Featuring 20 of the showman's greatest hits, recorded live with his 13-piece band and the 88-piece orchestra. Included are songs that were not on the pay-TV special or on the album. Titles include: "One Horse Town," "Daniel," "I'm Still Standing," and many more. --- RT synopsis
RT says it so much more concisely than I could, I wasn't especially pleased by the vhs filming of this Elton John at his bespeckled, gloriously costumed self. Coming on later dressed like Mozart or some such classical genius of old, his white wig and all white 17th century aristocrat costume is a sight to behold, leading with his all white piano in front of Melborne's 88 piece orchestra.
I was disappointed in the shooting of this concert however. It lacked sharpness. As a pay per view television special, it lacked the presence or clarity I like in a concert. The vhs version has songs not shown on television or the album.
Touted as "the most complete Elton John collection ever on video" (up to that time, apparently as I have not kept up with Elton since his wilder days). 20 of his greatest hits, 12 minute extended cuts of Rocket Man and Benny and the Jets.
The film has Elton and his 13 piece band kicking off the show and in a wonderful way adds to it an 88 piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra half way through the concert.
Recorded live on the final night of his 27 performance tour.
VHS high speed extended play in stereo hi-fi audio.
