Dressler is very good but the story is mawkish.

A Very Endearing Classic about a Nanny/Maid(Marie Dressler) that raises a Family for 30 years with all the Love & instincts of a Mother, although most of them grow up Spoiled & ingrateful. When she decides to treat herself to a trip to Niagra Falls, her Employer,Mr Smith (Jean Hersholt), a prominent Inventor & man of Wealth, decides he has Loved her for years & talks her into marrying him, all but one of his Children decide she is a Goldigger. Their Very Sweet & Funny Honeymoon is cut short by his sudden death.Emma inherits everything, & his Children, all but one, accuse her of murder. It goes to trial, she is acquitted , & returns(as always was her intention) all the Money & Property back to his spoiled Children & goes on to be Nanny/Housekeeper to another family, starting over, & being needed once again.

Old fashioned comedy and tearjerker about Emma, a woman who takes care of a family and raises the children as her own until one day the children turn on driven by greed and pettiness. The story gets a little hokey but the what makes the film so watchable is the incredible Marie Dressler. Her dead on comic chops and double takes are priceless and she knows how to tug at the heartstrings. A must see for old film buffs.
