Escape from Planet Earth's flaws would be more forgivable if the film offered better fun for younger viewers.

Escape from Planet Earth doesn't even try to make itself memorable. It's like a generic case of really uncomfortable indigestion that you'll forget about as soon it ends.

Escape from Planet Earth is a mildly entertaining examination of intergalactic sibling rivalry that will probably appeal to many younger kids, but not to the parents who have to sit through it with them.

An animated film that goes lamely where many have gone before.

Content to pitch most of its plot twists and gags squarely at kids.

Mediocre. But for The Weinsteins in animation? That's an improvement.

One only has to think of Battlefield Earth and After Earth to realise that putting the name of our planet into a movie title isn't always a good idea. Happily, Escape From Planet Earth is a reasonable exception.

It almost works as an amiable, if derivative, time-waster for kids with a few jokes for the grown-ups, but too much is unsettlingly off-base.

It's a bowl of warm water into which no one has bothered to place a bouillon cube. The kids in the theater with me never mustered a single laugh or gasp of excitement. It's plenty o' nuttin'.

nothing more than a profit margin placeholder for those without the creativity or the caring to make something truly special.

This might please young kids but torment discerning parents.

And just to make sure the feature radiates complete nonsense, every time a character falls in Escape from Planet Earth, there's a fart sound effect piped in. Surely your children would rather watch Argo instead, right?

A painted-by-numbers 3D kid-flick enlivened mostly by Rob Corddry, who plays the fastidious, nerdy brother to Brendan Fraser's doomed Buzz Lightyear clone.

Unremittingly bland conflict and stock characterisations mar what could have been [a] much more cleverly executed concept ...

Serviceable sci-fi - stopping momentarily at local theaters en route to its destiny on DVD as generic, escapist diversion for youngsters, teaching teamwork and preaching family loyalty and love.

The late Douglas Adams summed up Earth as "mostly harmless," a description that also applies to this eminently tolerable animated time-filler.
