Escape Room manages to deliver even less than it offers, and with an already low bar, the exciting design and good performances cannot salvage this messy horror.

The beginning starts out strong as a psychological, terror rollercoaster ride infused with humor. Shortly thereafter, you realize the similarities of other films like Clue and Game Night is the moment when it all goes off track.

Escape Room offers a bit of entertainment, but fumbles the ending, resulting in an experience that's not nearly as fun as a real escape room.

Awesome production design illuminates this fun flick, repressed by a lack of real wickedness.

"THAT IS NOT, IN FACT, A TWIST! THAT IS IN POINT OF FACT LITERALLY THE OPPOSITE OF A PLOT TWIST - IT'S AN UN-TWIST! A PLOT-STRAIGHTENING!"

I love Escape the Room games. I love a good horror movie. Escape Room is unfortunately a compelling case that the two should never meet. It's atrocious.

Escape Room as nifty and erratic as it first appears, eventully steers a predictiable path and struggles to solve its own contrived puzzle

Despite a strong start, Escape Room can't escape the tiresome tropes of the horror genre, falling back to old tricks that never fully pay off.

Welcome to the cinematic dregs of January, this film would seem to announce.

There is nothing here that reinvents the wheel of horror, nor is it particularly terrifying or memorable. Yet overall, Escape Room is an enjoyable night at the movies.

Almost every major puzzle is honestly quite thrilling, but it's the characters themselves that are Escape Room's biggest issue.

I was 100% on board...and then [Escape Room] just collapsed in on itself.

Man, I really liked Escape Room back in 1997 when it was called Cube.

"Escape Room" ends with the obvious signs of a sequel being planned. Where else it could go is hard to guess, but for now this concept is trapped by its own tricks, inspiring us to prefer escaping to a better distraction.

I'm enjoying myself but only at a medium level... but it believed too much in its own hype.

The end of this s--- turned into Inspector Gadget... it became a different movie.

Its complete and utter lack of ever taking itself or its characters seriously is the film's major saving grace. While this all makes it quite fun, it still doesn't make it any good.

There's just enough cleverness in Escape Room to enjoy that this bad-horror-movie experience becomes more discouraging than droll.

It's just not as smart as I would have liked to have seen for a movie with this premise.

Robitel seems to deal with a script that is flooded with forced turns of the screw, of guilty soliloquies, of attempts to be more shrewd than any formula. [Full Review in Spanish]
