This documentary on the life and career of Hampton Fancher is definitely not told in an ordinary doc way, and thus may not appeal to everyone. But Fancher, who co-wrote the screenplay for the groundbreaking classic sci-fi movie Blade Runner (1982) and subsequently The Mighty Quinn (1989), The Minus Man (1999) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), led, from adolescence on, an incredible and fascinating life.

Early on the film is very disjointed, in my opinion, but as it progressed I got more adjusted to its style and felt it became much more coherent. It's only, though, in the final 20 minutes that we get the backstory of how Fancher, along with others, was able to bring Blade Runner to the screen. Be aware there were no subtitles available on my DVD copy and there is explicit language throughout the movie.

One of the most surprising documentaries I've ever seen. What a life.
