Movie Info

A full length anime feature, Eureka Seven: Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers is based on the same characters as the sci-fi tinged Eureka Seven TV series, but creates a new mythos for the story. Inseparable friends as children, Renton and Eureka were both changed forever when she was mysteriously taken away. Vowing to rescue her one day, Renton grows up to enlist in the military and soon becomes involved in the elite bio-armor system known as Nirvash. He'd always hoped that becoming a hero could help him one day to track down his long-lost friend, but Renton soon discovers that Eureka is tangled up in the Nirvash project as well - in ways he never could have imagined.

While completely different from the tv series, this movie reboot does an admiral job of standing on its own. In fact, in many ways, it is much easier to understand just what is going on and, more importantly, why. In the tv series, there is time to play upon long "mysterious" storylines. Here, brevity is necessity. The retyping of character personality was jarring, even though I enjoyed Dewey being cast for the utter scum I thought he was in the tv series. Hap and Stoner, I didn't care for the gun toting rebel, bad guy'ish vibe they put out. Overall, I enjoyed this movie for what it was. Just don't compare it to the tv series. And vice-versa.
