Movie Info

A drifter searching for stability returns to his small hometown and raises the suspicions of the locals when he forms a fixation on a childhood friend, and takes it upon himself to be a fitting role model for her troubled adolescent son. Appearing back in town seemingly out of nowhere, David Paxton (Pablo Schreiber) finds that his old friend Joan (Kellie Overbey) is a struggling single mother doing her best to raise her son teenage Ross Connor Paolo). But lately, without a male role model to look up to, Ross' behavior has grown increasingly erratic and unpredictable. Incredibly, David does succeed in breaking through the unruly teen's heavily fortified emotional barrier. Yet despite this success, the community still views David with suspicion, and Joan makes it perfectly clear that she has no interest in becoming romantically involved with him. Later, when concerned little league coach Bill Huston (Richard Bekins) takes it upon himself to shield Ross from David's influence, the stage is set for a shocking confrontation.

Audience Reviews for Favorite Son

As a child, his dad commits suicide and his mom goes crazy as a result. His baseball coaches subsequent interest in him turns into sexual abuse. As an adult he is an aging AA minor league baseball player with a bum knee who dreams of making it to the majors. His teammates ridicule and mock him. The local law authorities beat him up -- and his abusive childhood coach shoots him with the VERY gun his father used to kill himself. And everything else about the film is equally silly.
