Critic Reviews for Fear No Evil
Though the horror genre is sated with maniacs on the menace, Fear No Evil stands out. Spooky and surreal, the ultimately hopeful film has its basis in religious morality.
The dialogue and characterizations are rudimentary. Of the acting and the direction, the best that can be said is that they would not disgrace a small-city drama club.
Everything you could hope for in a late 1970s-early 1980s horror picture -- and then some. It's exploitative, it's in crashingly bad taste, it's cheesy and it's pretty silly.
Audience Reviews for Fear No Evil
I saw the trailer for this movie and now I would love to see it. It looked very good. very scary. I rated it 5 stars.
Fear No Evil is considered by many a cult classic. This movie is the definition of cheese. The premise is that three angels inhabit the bodies of everyday humans, Raphael, Michael and Gabriel to fight the human carnation of Lucifer on the eve of the Second Coming of Christ. I guess that could make a good movie, if it would include good dialog, good acting, a decent score, strong cinematography. Unfortunately, we don't get any of that. While there are a few scenes in this film that are rather striking and bizarre, i.e. the shower scene and the mass stigmata, this movie is rather banal and boring. The dialog made me feel like I was watching an episode of Satanic Welcome Back, Kotter. The acting was pretty much piss poor, I don't think anyone in this film went on to any success. The visual aspects of this movie were basically shoddy, often times being obscured by overdone lighting or lack of preparing the blocking for a sunny day when shooting outside. And the score was just over-the-top melodramatic and omnipresent, usually overriding the emotional impact of the scene. This is one cult I will not belong to. Better left in the past this one. Anchor Bay, Shame on you.
** (out of four) Cheesy beyond belief, the entire premise of this horror film from 1981 is so ridiculous that it could have been pretty good. But it is purely amateur filmmaking. The war between Heaven and Hell is brewing and will fought in a high school where the anti-christ is masquerading as a student.
