Oct 27, 2008 From an expat's point of view, I thought this film was pretty well done. A woman follows the path of female soldiers on The Long March. I knew nothing of this story before, so found the tale quite interesting. The only place this fell apart, for me, was when she stopped along the grasslands to cook over an open fire. It was cold, snowing, and she could not get the fire to go. After crying, she jumped back in the 4WD and took off...not an admirable scene in the shadow of this amazing tale of human suffering. But otherwise, I am really glad I took the time to learn this little piece of history and found the film worth two hours of my day off. The footage from survivors alone makes the movie worthwhile. Feet Unbound basically takes you along the route called The Long March taken by female soldiers, who were mere teenagers, on the run who had to battle the ravages of harsh terrain, lack of food and death. The few survivors are now feisty old ladies with their own independent identities and unique outlook of China, while some others are still battling with the evils and scars from yester years. The journalist is less convincing.
