Patrick Macnee and Anthony Perkins are two of the big names joining Colin Friels, Diane Cilento & Robert Colby in this made for TV movie. It is based on the Marcus Clarke novel about a wrongly accused man sent to a harsh penal colony at the ends of the earth. The cast are impressive as is the location filming (except for some lazy low-budget effects to make the places more historically corrrect, such as Hobart Town which looks like a primary school drawing with texta colours).

A true relic from a racist era, it's a good thing we don't allow this kind of racism in the film industry any more.

I remember watching this as a teenager and thoroughly enjoying the story, which follows a young man called 'Rufus Dawes'. He is wrongly accused of a crime and is deported to Tasmania. Quite an inspriring story really - just a real shame that it is so hard to find and not available on DVD. Colin Friels is excellent in the lead role.
