Critic Reviews for Fresh Meat
While Fresh Meat is sometimes hard to swallow, I admittedly had more fun than I should have with this cannibal caper.
Audience Reviews for Fresh Meat
This New Zealand horror comedy starts like an ordinary sexy college movie but turns out quickly to a unusual story about a modern-day family of Maori cannibals who are taken hostage by a gang of criminals. It stars Temuera Morrison as Hemi Crane: The head of the family, Nicola Kawana as Margaret Crane (Hemi's wife), Hanna Tevita as Rina Crane (the teenage daughter), Kahn West as Glenn Crane (the teenage son), Leand Macadaan as Richie Tan, Ralph Hilaga as Paulie Tan and amazing Kate Elliot as Gigi. It is Danny Mulheron's directorial debut. The film had its world premiere at the 32nd Hawaii International Film Festival on 15 October 2012. It had its New Zealand premiere on 25 October. I wasn't too impressed with the screenplay, but the uniqueness of the movie allows the few holes in the writing, and over the top acting and action scenes. The film works as an uncompromisingly dark horror comedy and if you take it as a satire of clashing values and transgressive tropes, you could enjoy it much more. Maybe you are a vegetarian, but, as one of the heroes, try some "balls" for dinner! Don't expect a superb taste, though!
