Friend Request (2017)
Critic Consensus: Friend Request's attempts to update old-school teen horror for the digital age do not, sadly, include memorable characters, fresh scares, or novel storytelling twists.

Critic Reviews for Friend Request
It's a film devoid of subtext, which is especially disappointing given that the subtext would have been so easy to incorporate.
The characters aren't as obnoxious and unlikable as the ones in "Smiley" and "Unfriended," but then again, bland and forgettable is only a marginally preferable alternative.
While Friend Request dives deep into the darker side to social addiction, and how it transforms us as a society and as individuals, it's too shallow of a film to have any true impact.
Among the most unintentionally funny films of recent vintage, starting with the periodic on-screen appearance of the heroine's Facebook friend count as it spirals downward, which is presented as equivalent to the tragedy of a string of murders.
Audience Reviews for Friend Request
Friend Request is a ridiculously dumb horror bait that somehow manages to make Unfriended look as if it could easily be converted to become the best high-quality game on the Nintendo Switch. By that, I mean this dumb horror bait-to-the-eye makes Unfriended, another similar horror bait, look as if it could easily earn a ten out of ten just by watching it. That's literally saying too much especially if I'm comparing a dumb horror bait with another similar premise.
I hope this isn't a portent of Alycia Debnam-Carey's future career.
Attempting to replicate other successful cyber horror films (like Unfriended), Friend Request utilises Facebook as the tool for creating the scares. When I say scares, I mean that loosely as this film has practically none. The premise sounded promising, but unfortunately this is just another low-budget horror failure. I did not care for the characters, I was glad that they got disposed of. The ending was terrible and rushed, suffice to say I was bored watching this.
