Although some of its plots are implausible, Full Alert is still an exciting, gripping and compelling film, with some sense of humour.
It hasn't aged well and you can tell it was shot in a month. Poor lighting and angles plague the film in several places. 15 years ago it was nominated for 7 awards and won 2. What was once genuine, now feels like a parody. Fans of Ng or Wan Lau that think "the complexity of action and character are fascinating" may enjoy this dated melodrama.
Terrific performances and vulnerable characters add dimension to the basic cop vs robber storyline. Ching Wan Lau has a family, but they never overtake his humanness as a 10 year old cop. On the other side is the excellent Francis Ng, who plays the heist man with toughness and just a hint of scary. These two face off against each other in a tense cat and mouse chase, until the thrilling finale in (perhaps) Ringo Lam's finest movie.
this is a great action crime thriller starring 2 powerhouse character actors lau ching wan and francis ng. if anything, just a lil' dated and ng's role needs fleshing out to bring their titanic struggle to the forefront with more credibility.
Very interesting plot... some great acting from Francis, Lau!
A very good movie by Ringo Lam. As always, a very dark and violent film, with tragic themes, and great action scenes as well. Made during darker times (last months before the Hong Kong retocession in 1997) than his previous films, this Ringo Lam's film is much more darker, and 100% serious (different from the more optimistic City on Fire, with the charismatic Chow Yun Fat). But, the quality of themovie (as well of the scenario) is a little bit lower than his previous masterpieces (Full Contact and City on Fire), so I put only 4 stars. I recommand to all Ringo Lam's fans, but I don't recommand this movie for kids and sensitive people.
Lau Ching-Wan is his usual self and it's good. Francis Ng is good, the story is ok. See it if you haven't!
Another fantastic action film from HK. A must for action fans.
Le polar noir hongkongais par excellence. Une oeuvre qui brille par son realisme et son nihilisme. Un duel au sommet entre Lau Ching Wan, flic a bout de nerf, et Francis Ng, ingenieur machiavelique !
I didn't like the lightning work in this movie and at the beginning it felt very weak movie. Got much better towards the end but still...pretty B-movie feeling as a result.
