This is the most ironic and, in many ways, judgmental of [Eric] ohmer's films.

Moon is arguably one of the easiest Rohmer films for viewers to identify with. Let's be honest, just about everyone has been in an unequal relationship.

Rohmer's wordplay is scalpel-precise, but the movement of his characters, the blocking of figures in dances of desire, figurative and literal, is also supremely graceful even as relationships explode with casual centripetal force.

There's irony but no cruelty here; Rohmer is not making Louise the butt of the joke or saying "serve her right." It's simply in the nature of stories illustrating a proverb that someone is bound to suffer from the principle at stake.

Out of this Lubitschian tangle Rohmer finds Le Beau Mariage in reverse, and couches it in terms of pure rhythm still unappreciated by bookish critics

Pascale Ogier stars as the quintessential Rohmer woman, loved and admired by the men around her but desperately confused about the meaning of love.

It's as elegant and incisive a comedy of manners as ever from Rohmer.

Full Moon in Paris ranks with the very best of Rohmer. Enlightened self-deception is the system in this tiny universe, and it's invigoratingly comic to behold.

Compels us to examine our own feelings about eros, jealousy, union and loss.

Full Moon in Paris, the fourth in the series, is bleaker than any of its predecessors.
