This average time-travel science-fiction fantasy is Laloux's most efficient feature-length animation of the three he made, with a great score and a plot that is more interesting than Fantastic Planet and more focused than Time Masters.

What a fascinating film in all the bad ways. I can give a back handed compliment about effort and vision, but I no better than to compliment obtuseness. But this film is peeking my fascination with the post-Heavy-Metal-magazine aesthetic of science fiction that tries to confuse people into enlightenment.

This is a must watch for any animation or bad movie fan as it is beautiful enough to keep you wondering "Wait, what did the giant jello say? Why does she have wings on her head?".

With fascinating, authentic and riveting story, mature tone, superb world building and absolutely breathtaking and truly artistic animation with a lot of care and evident detail, Gandahar is not only well crafted due to its amazing technical aspects but also wonderfully imagined thanks to its stellar script and it is undoubtedly one of the most underrated and shamefully forgotten animated films of all time.

A unique and highly imaginative animated films aiming the adult LSD crowd rather than the kids but it doesn't take away the amazing visual power of the film nor it's beautiful message. It's a different type of film, completely out there but fascinating from start to finish. Rene Laloux was a true visionary man.

Without a doubt, a great sci-fi film.

Are we absolutely sure that Ralph Bakshi didn't direct this? This is exactly the kind of pretentious techno punk fantasy he was always trying to make.

A magnificient piece of Art, a sci-fi classic!

Too bad this isn't available in the US anymore..

Have to watch this again, but a great film. I find this kind of animation a little jarring, perhaps it's the time or method of the film.

Visually imaginative like Fantastic Planet, but with a completely nonsensical plot.

Truly original and forgotten classic--Just like Asimov's ideal "world"!!

Best non-anime animated film.

Animated sci-fi about peaceful and happy citizens of Gandahar who are attacked by men of metal who turn them to stone and then into robots. Plagued by dialogue laced with double negatives and the present tense spoken in future tense terms.

Obscure to be sure, odd and disturbing. Really one of my all time favorites.

A great movie that is sadly overshadowed by the superior "La Planete Sauvage".

CLASSIC Science Fiction . . . the soundtrack is entitled "Gandahar."

its like Heavy Metal (a really long Heavy-Metal Story). A Guy is sent to the future (via a Rip Van Winkle-esque sleep) to kill Gandahar when Gandahar has gotten out of control except Gandahar no longer wants to die--I think I have the name wrong.

WATCH THE MOVIE . . . it should be available via download.

Rene Laloux's 3rd feature-length, and last is a grand release, much bigger than "Time Masters" or "Fantastic Planet" in both worldly scale and animation scale. Also for great trivia, animation was done by French and North Koreans (!), and the badly chopped up US version was credited to Harvey Weinstein as director, which should be avoided at all costs.

Rene Laloux is like James T with the crazy colored ladies. The animation leaves a little to be desired, but overall a good scifoon.
