I was curious about this aspect of NYC. It was an interesting story, but it was not great.

At times overwrought, but quite good later noir film that was primarily directed by the great Robert Aldrich, who was fired two weeks shy of the film being completed. The film uncomfortably vacillates between being an "issue" film and a tough nourish thriller, but overall it's a start little melodrama with a fun tough edge.

This film is part of the Martini Movie collection and it is an excellent movie with a huge cast of great actors from the fifties. About the garment district in New York City where at one time all dresses were made, The union is sweeping the garment district but there are a few hold outs, and those holding out are paying the mob for protection, one owners son comes home from the war and is determined to clean up his fathers business. The movies in the Martini Collection are outstanding and this one should not be missed. 4 1/2 stars

Too many overactive characterizations, too much family melodrama, and the relationship between the boss' son and the union organizer's wife is unseemly. But I appreciate the contrast between the funerals of the union organizer and the capitalist. And the choice remains: organized labor or organized crime, socialism or barbarism.

Its the Mobsters vs the Union in this okay drama revolving around New York's garment district. The Garment Jungle has a fairly good story to it and was shot mainly in NYC.

Good melodrama, great use of New York City locations, which gave it a realistic look. Good acting and score, excellent cinematography.
