Movie Info

In a future dystopia where thorough DNA scans are required to gain entrance into every major city, a world-class assassin (Bai Ling) is assigned the task of eliminating rogue DNA hackers. The sun has scorched the earth, and now dense clouds hang above overpopulated megacities. Those whose DNA is considered unworthy are locked out of the cities and forced to wander the wastelands. It's Michelle's duty to ensure that no undesirables gain entry into the city, and she earns a substantial paycheck for doing so. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Audience Reviews for The Gene Generation

This looked a lot better than I thought it would. I thought it would be a cheap indie sci-fi. However, the cinematography was awesome. There was a lot of cg, but the cg looked really good. It's about people in the future who are able to modify people's dna and turn them into mutant like creatures, but also cure diseases ext. Assassins are sent to kill people who restructure others' dna (dna hackers). It's pretty cool. They have a whole class system and all. Very awesome futuristic-shithole scenarios. The girl is a bad ass. The acting isn't great, but it could be worse. The end wasn't great. It was a bit on the weak side, but up until then I really enjoyed the movie. cyber-punk..

½

Main characters are relatively well played and there are some cool (yet short) fighting scenes where Bai Ling shows some skills. The heroine is an anti-hero, a paid assassin who kills DNA Hackers, people who use genetic manipulation to get into places they shouldn't. Her brother is a gambling junkie and a self-destructive idiot. The hairstyle, face paintings, the clothes, the guns - just WOW! She's like the ultimate cyberpunk chick! There is a short shower scene. And a short sex scene! A flick which tries to enter the Aeon Flux scene, it is hard to recommend this movie for the plot, which is dark and twisted; but, it is hard not to admire the effort in art and in cinema design which went into creating this futuristic urban hell on earth. If you are in this cyber-punk scene or Bai Ling's then it's worth a watch, but don't be expecting much!!
