The script is a clumsy patchwork of The Shining, Alien and anything else the writers could rent (not read, mind you) at Blockbuster.

Director Steven Beck builds his Ghost Ship with borrowed materials from all across the cinematic sea.

It's better than you expect but not as good as you hope.

Aside from an occasional, half-hearted 'boo!' moment, there's nothing scary about this movie.

It was a dark and stormy night...

It should be mentioned that the set design and interiors of the haunted vessel are more than effectively creepy and moodily lit. So I just did.

A lame script, featuring sorry dialogue and a senseless story, is more likely to provoke laughs than screams from its intended audience.

A dumb movie with dumb characters doing dumb things and you have to be really dumb not to see where this is going.

If there were as many scares as there were phony decapitated heads we may have had half a movie here.

Ghost Ship is the sort of flimflam that would have filled eight paneled pages in the great horror comic book Tales From the Crypt or consumed about 30 minutes on the latter-day HBO spinoff.

A soggy, cliche-bound epic-horror yarn that ends up being even dumber than its title.

The final reel plots a course smack between predictable and sheer idiocy.

It's a workmanlike production, with no surprises, no scares and no jokes - unless you count the demon that laments his job by saying he must gather enough souls to fill a quota.

Exposition litters Ghost Ship like barnacles on a rusty hull. At times the film sits dead in the water while characters stand around updating each other on events we've already seen.

(Director Steve) Beck wants to dazzle the audience. I'd settle for a story.
