(2006) Ghosts Of Cite Soleil
(Haiti with English subtitles)

Mildly interesting documentary centering on the gangs that exist around an impoverished part of Haiti called Cite Soleil and are over runned by gangs one of them called the Chiméres once hired by the dictator of Haiti by the name of President Aristide. The documentary centers on the leader of the Chimera gang who calls himself 2Pac after an American rapper/ hip hop artist since he's a huge fan of his music and want to be as successful as him some day who often collides with his brother Bily in terms of turf and ownership and eventually gets involved with a French UN nurse which doesn't go anywhere.

The film contains alot of jabbering and macho talk but that's what impoverished gangs do and because it's deemed as a dangerous place to live, the film makers tend to avoid getting themselves into trouble and asked questions instead of picking sides. Defintiely not for everybody.

Un bon docu sur Haiti en 2004.. qui laisse penser qu Haiti est foutu. Avec des chefs pareils, c est pas demain que le pays sortira de la misere.

As usually the poor people are used by political forces to achieve their goals.
Ghosts pretend to be big bosses with a big guns in their hands but the only thing they can be sure is that they day young in they poverty slums.

This documentary is good but just too depressing. And neither gang warfare or rap music are subjects I have any interest in. I was shocked at how these human beings can treat each other like shit!

One of the most brutal and facinating documentaries I have seen. It presents a rare and blunt look at two brothers, each with a gang to lead, in the the poorest slum of Port Au Prince, Haiti, Cite Soleil. It shows their trials and tribulations they face among their people, government, and each other, which all boils down to everyday life to them.

You will not be able to go there alone, you will not find such pictures in the catalogues of the tourist office - a fascinating insight into poverty, violence and politics.

I came across this, while searching documentries. With the recent earth quake in Port-au-Prince, I'm especially interested in viewing this...ASAP!

It's just brilliant!

A good and rather disturbing documentary. However Leth failed to really explain the whole story behind the politics. If you don't already have some knowledge about the whole situation, I think you may find it a bit confusing. But, it's still good, non the less.

Haiti has always been my favorite island. It's a beautiful island with beautiful people who are lost in a storm of political explotation and extreme poverty that's exacerbated by the general lack interest from the global community. This documentary gives you a brutal look into this island. It's great in that sort of 'God, I'm depressed for these people' sort of way.

A little bit exploitative but the cinematography is beautiful. Editing is top notch.
