Electric, musical, joyful, and ecstatic beginning that hints that all is not what it seems, as it descends into a rabbit hole of delusional female hysteria, insanity, and introspection. Mesmerizing. Haunts. Unsettles. I couldn't look away. I didn't know Bette Midler had a daughter. Would like to see her work more. The director/writer is very talented to boldly paint this vision. See more Hugo S @Hugo_Shudder 11/02/2024 "Give Me Pity!" presents us with a woman performing on a variety TV show with an 80's setting. The movie takes the viewer on a psychedelic trip to the enormous ego of a wannabe artist tirelessly seeking the love and attention from her audience. The insecurity of the TV host is obvious to the point of creating a live psychodrama that derails with every performance. Despite its unconventional visuals, the movie has no deep substance or character development beyond the repetitive scenes of exhaustive monologue. See more Timothy P @timop1919 05/11/2024 It was boring and had nothing to say but repeated that nothing over and over in bland skits, monologuing and songs that think they are social commentary but really are saying absolutely nothing. The star is trying so hard but the material is not worthy of her charms at all. I initially thought I might like this from it's campy tone but it kept dragging on for what felt like 12 hours of nothing. With better writing and/or clever satire, this would be terrific but not as is. Before seeing this film, I knew nothing about either the writer or the main actress which, is probably one of the better ways to see this movie because it allows the audience to immerse themselves in the "world" created by the story. This is a very self-aware movie that requires patience to unravel all the layers presented here but, it definitely pays off. See it if you're looking for something different for a change.
