The pace seldom lags, the cinematography is luscious, and a dream sequence has a clever twist.

Huppert should be the next Bond villain.

Huppert takes the neuroses of her troubled characters in 'The Piano Teacher' and 'She' and amps them up a notch.
March 5, 2019
it leaves the impression of a cinematic elevator pitch in which some wonderful actors are cast in the role of stick figures and given hardly a chance to humanize them.

Be sure to wear a watch. It will give you something to look at.

In the end, Greta proves to be little more than a B-movie with strong production values and an eclectic cast. Anyone who attends with lowered expectations probably won't be disappointed, but this is far from Jordan at his best.
March 2, 2019
Despite the first-rate production values and the game performances from the cast, Greta can't escape from the formulaic screenplay that dogs it at every turn.

Filled with "Jaws"-y surprise moments, it's less likely to elicit shivers than giggles. So does much of the dialogue.

[Huppert's] Greta turns out to be the movie's saving grace... a presence so fantastically bonkers - and so aware of the story's mounting midnight-movie kitsch - that it hardly matters if you've seen it all done before, and better.

If "Greta" is satire, Huppert seems to understand so better than Moretz; the fact that they're consistently on different pages renders "Greta" a major mess, but it's also what could extend its shelf-life well past its sell-by date.

This is a ridiculous film, knowingly so. It's hard to say who winks at the audience more often, Jordan or Huppert.

Greta is more of a Terminator movie, with everyone doing their best to get out of Huppert's way for 98 enjoyable minutes-though that's still worth a recommendation in my book.

Jordan's movie is not graced with subtlety, nor does it wish to be, and that's the fun of it. Its purpose is to prick your nerves, and every detail is enlisted to that end.

Greta excels at its bizarre balancing act, maintaining an amusing self-awareness that avoids glib disdain.

"Greta" is a mishmash of tropes masterfully compiled into a chilly and taut flick. Come for Huppert tossing dining tables and exclaiming "I deserve better" but stay for the severed pinkies.
February 28, 2019
Isabelle Huppert commits wholeheartedly to every bonkers moment in "Greta," and that's what makes the movie thrilling.
February 28, 2019
Greta is about as retrograde as you can get, but accepting that, it's also tremendously silly and kind of a blast.
February 28, 2019
Jordan does a fine job building the tension and dread throughout, never overreaching into melodrama, while allowing Huppert to morph in stages from elegant older woman into unhinged virago.
February 28, 2019
The movie frustrates. And it squanders Huppert, which really is a waste.

This straightforward thriller is no "Psycho," but it's a fun little film that happens to feature the great Isabelle Huppert, whose performance might be best described as a total hoot.
