Critic Consensus: Halloween largely wipes the slate clean after decades of disappointing sequels, ignoring increasingly elaborate mythology in favor of basic - yet still effective - ingredients.

Critic Reviews for Halloween
A new coat of paint, even on a storied house of horrors such as "Halloween," can do wonders.
The result is almost the Platonic ideal of a slasher-reboot -- it's fierce, it's lean, it's mean, and it has at least three first-pumping "Hell, yeah!" moments.
It's just not scary. And that's one thing you could never say about the original.
That's a great reason to remake it: Everyone's waving around a gun these days, and the idea that the survivor of the so-called "Babysitter Murders" is, 40 years later, a militia-worthy nut with murderous instincts of her own has a sad symmetry to it.
Just another pale imitation, another bad Halloween sequel watering down the fear factor of the original.
