The movie (for the most part), plays like an homage to its predecessor, setting up familiar scenes that made Halloween a cultural phenomenon.

A horror movie that is as much about the connection between predator and prey, as it is about the creative ways to transition anticipation into tension and tension into violence.

2018's Halloween does present a conundrum. It's the perfect culmination to the long-running franchise but, more than any other chapter, it leaves the audience pumped for more.

[Forgets] that a decent Halloween movie should take its cue from Michael Myers: low on chat, high on surprise. Even so, this one can still boast a higher-than-average proportion of treats among its tricks.

...Gordon Green and company have succeeded wildly and, on top of everything, have managed to add a cathartic message about surviving trauma to the proceedings.

HALLOWEEN, is a brutally fun family affair that pays reverence to [John] Carpenter's 1978 original without putting on the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia too often.

Curtis imbues the 57-year old Strode with a lifetime of regrets and untreated mental issues that nonetheless do not erase the genuinely good person we met back in '78.

Halloween is simultaneously better than it probably should have been and a missed opportunity undone by bloat and one catastrophically uninteresting subplot.
