Situated in the African American community, the film charts the same territory as other classic "cruising" pictures (American Graffiti, Diner), also serving as an allegory about the hardships of growing up and making choices.

Audience Reviews for Hangin' with the Homeboys

How many life experiences can you have in one night? Too damn many hanging with these cats. I truly enjoy watching it from time to time. Makes me appreciate the people who are in my life.

Such a funny, dramatic, and realistic independent film from the 90's.The characters feel human and they are all interesting.John Leguizamo is great here. But Doug E.Doug was the standout as Willy giving the character a teenage-like innocence and attitude about him.And when it came to either the dramtic and comedic moments with that character it worked really well.It even earned him an Independent Spirit Award Nomination(They are so better than the Oscars).I wish there were more films like Hangin' with the Homeboys.

Great movie. Basically this is "Friday" before "Friday" ever came about. It's 4friends on a Friday night with nothing better to do then go out partying. It's funny but gets dramatic at some parts. (good movie to watch with friends)
