It’s worth watching if you are interested in learning about the life of Neem Karoli Baba but because it was made by amateurs on a low budget, it is amateurish. Don’t go expecting see a well made movie but go if you want to get inspired by the life of the saint. The movie was made by an amateur filmmaker with a largely amateur cast at an incredibly low budget of $250k and has made $36 million at the worldwide box office to become an unprecedented sleeper hit. It’s a movie about a saint from northern India named Neem Karoli Baba. He is not that well known but had a handful of Western devotees starting with Kermit Michael Riggs and Dr. Richard Alpert from Harvard, Jeffrey Kagel and many more since then. His name became more popular in the west after people learned that Steve Jobs had traveled to India in 1974 to meet the Baba not realizing that the Baba had already left his body a year ago and more recently Mark Zuckerberg and Julia Roberts traveled to India to visit the Baba’s samādhi or mandir. The acting is sub-par and the CGI is laughable but again you have to reset your expectations. If you are not curious about the saint or don’t care for spiritually uplifting stories then don’t go. Finally, please do us all a favor and don’t go if you are neither spiritually inclined nor interested and going because you are curious or being dragged along by someone. It was frankly disheartening to see people treat this like a regular movie and stretch their feet out and munch on snacks and beverages while the screen is showing the life of a saint and images of Hanumān Ji. Please please don’t go if you are in that group and do the rest of us that huge favor.
