Women are becoming a growing presence in the world of competitive mountain biking, and this documentary offers an in-depth look at ten of the leading women in this exciting and demanding sport. Hardihood features interviews with leading professional cyclists as well as top-ranked amateurs; subjects include Jacquie Phelan, a three-time national champion in the 1980s who was also well known as a tireless advocate of the sport, and Missy Giove and Marla Streb, two of the best riders on the circuit. Hardihood was screened at the 2001 San Francisco Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.
