A very anoying habit of Flixter is that they often don't enter movies under their original name (or under both names). 'Come as you are' is the name used for the American market, everywhere else it's called 'Hasta la Vista'. Anyway. At first I wasn't too keen to watch a feature abouth three handicapped guys wanting to travel to Spain to lose their virginity in a brothel. It sounded like either a cheap movie or a very sentimental one. But none of that. As I started watching with scepsis I found myself drawn in to it. The dialogue, full of humour, is so well written, the characters are not two dimensional but complex and likeable and although I could feel the ending coming it does succeed to avoid most sentimental traps. Hasta la Vista sweeped the festival circuit with wins in Montréal, San José and Valladolid and several Audience awards including at Karlovy Vary and to top it all: at the European Film Awards. It's the 'feel good movie' of the year 2011. It's a crowdpleaser but a good one.
