Must have been an inspiration for the movie 'Whip It'. Finally a doc that women will love, but confirms my beliefs that women can be nutty.

Roller derby documentary, more about business building and the politics and betrayals of it than the sport itself. Kind of cheaply made and loose but enjoyable. Soundtrack by Trail of Dead.

If you enjoyed this documentary, you might also like the book ‚??Rollergirl: Totally True Tales from the Track‚?? by Melissa ‚??Melicious‚?? Joulwan. You'll remember Melicious as the one with the short, blonde hair and killer smile (she was first in the Hellcats, then in the Hot Rod Honeys).

Not much skating, but a fascinating look at the behind-the-scenes politics of the league that helped bring back roller derby.

Just as i thought a documentery based on "roller derby" that actually shows it how it is. The documentery looks at a bunch of bored woman who never really made the grade for any sport and numerous other so called "misfits" and throws them together to meet up on a regular basis to skate round in a f**king cirlce trying to overtake so called "blockers" who basically block two "jammers" that are trying to get past them to score points. This is a lowbrow look at the sport which basically by the end of it will have you wanting you to blow your brains out or punch someone in the face...either way you'll want your f**king money back. Go watch my dinner with andre instead....

An enjoyable doc about the re-emergence of women`s roller derby in Austin, Texas. The access the filmmaker got was great, we get to see all of the in-fighting and blood, sweat and tears it takes to get the league up and running, but somehow the whole film still felt a bit superficial and lacking in an understanding of what drives these women.

Worth a watch for the cat fighting and skate scenes

It was a little slow at first, but got better about half way through the film. While the film is about roller derby and female empowerment, it is also a lesson on business.

Interesting but workmanlike documentary about the world of women's roller derby in Texas. Director Bob Ray doesn't do enough with the great material - violent, crazy post-feminist sport, roller derby league politics and breakaway leagues, the women who inhabit this strange world, including the charismatic, larger than life Amber a.k.a. "Diva" who ends up killing herself - and despite gaining access all areas re meeting halls, living rooms and stadium bouts, only serves up a loose collage of characters and stories (making it hard to connect with any of them), and no real delving into the sport itself, just trite punk-rock montages of rollerskaters going around and around a rink and knocking each other over. Where's the pre-game pepping, the team rivalries, the march to the finals or whatever the drama of the sport might be, in addition to all the sports administration/behind-the-scenes stuff that Ray captures so well?

I was a little disappointed that it was more about the politics of roller derby.
