I wish the film had done more to explore this strange split. Boehm doesn't include much by way of negative criticism, although he does show a clip in which Susan Sontag accuses Newton of misogyny.

Only Susan Sontag, in the sole critical analysis, notes that Newton shows women in a humiliating way, that the executioner loves the victim... I'm with Sontag.

The problem that I have with the documentary is that it became repetitive. It didn't really do much after 35 minutes and just rehashed the same territory.

While it raises questions about individualized female empowerment as it is tied to fashion and capitalism, it then fails to adequately answer them.
