Movie Info

Bing Crosby plays a widowed millionaire who decides that it's "high time" he got himself a college education. Enrolling as a freshman, Crosby is forced to endure the anachronistic initiation stunts dreamed up by his fraternity buddies, and at one point is required to dress up as Scarlett O'Hara (that's the level of humor here). Unlike the other students, Bing displays no interest in romantically pursuing the lovely coeds. Instead, he woos a teacher (Nicole Maurey) who is -- relatively speaking -- closer to his own age. Bing rounds out his first year in college as the most popular man on campus (he's certainly the best singer, since his only competition is the redoubtable Fabian). Though about 15 years out of date, High Time is brightly directed by Blake Edwards and includes at least one memorable song, ""The Second Time Around.""

So-so college comedy starring Bing Crosby.

Plays dated these days, though what now seems like a pitch straight down the middle probably seemed more like a screwball fifty-two years ago. [Blu-ray]

Inventive, delightful comedy also has memorable scenes of social protest and commentary.

A Blake Edwards (Pink Panther) outrageous comedy and a scream! Now older Bing Crosby decides he wants to go to college. Watch out freshman! This is a Blake Edwards early film that is mostly hilarious... old fashioned style (of course). Crosby, 51 years old, decides he wants to go to college and do it like anyone else. He does the dormitory scene, he attends gym, he takes part in all the crazy schemes of the kids. The freshman year is enough of a triumph, but his second year means he has to endure being accepted by a fraternity house. He has to now earn their respect by being dressed as a woman in the big administrator's dance. Well, you get the idea. One big challenge after another. You can watch this with ANYONE. Imagine that? See it on www.hulu.com today. Directed by Blake Edwards Writing credits Tom Waldman (screenplay) & Frank Waldman (screenplay) Garson Kanin (based on a story by) Cast Bing Crosby ...
