Audience Reviews for Dirty Teacher
Lifetime is a channel that specifically targets one gender so chances were not high for me to like "High School Crush" or "Dirty Teacher" according to the title within the movie. Needless to say it clearly wasn't good, though compare to the other Lifetime movies I (was force to) watch it's not nearly as bad. Dirty Teacher (or High School Crush according to RT) is about high-school senior Jamie Hall learning that her teacher is seducing her boyfriend. So let begin with the good which their little to speak off. The characters are given basic development and most of them serve some purpose in the story. Granted Jamie parents, more specially her mother is only put to any actual use towards the final act. The plot is interesting even if it is predictable where certain events are going. Now the bad simply being this is a "Lifetime Original Movie" so clearly it bound to get things wrong. So Jamie's teacher, Molly, had a traumatic experience of her adoptive mother calling her ugly. This development unfortunately plays into the movie making for some unintentionally funny scenes. Even though it's meant to be taken serious hearing "You're ugly!" right out of nowhere is funny every time. Sure it explain Molly attraction towards her student for unconditional love, but in the context of the film it's weak. When Jamie's thinks her boyfriend is cheating on her she doesn't do the logical things. She instead stalks her boyfriend and when she discover what her boyfriend has been doing encouraging Jamie to tell no one. The police in the movie even spout out the plot holes and Jamie explanation for telling no one is simply because her boyfriend didn't want her to. Along the way the police even crack a joke despite the fact that a teenager was murdered. As for teacher Molly she relies on huge bound of logic and coincidence in order to get as far she does. The ending also ignores a significant character for a force happy ending, minus the dead teenager. The plot is occasionally interesting being unable to overcome predictable writing. The acting is surprisingly good. Josie Davis from her physical appearance is very attractive so it's easy to see why someone would buy fall to her charm. What is not subtle is her techniques of seduction. She makes it obvious by revealing a bit too much cleavage in class and plain obvious flirting. It's not entirely Josie Davis fault. Sure Davis could have dialed back in some of her line delivery to make it subtle, but the character is written to just throw herself at her student. Kelcie Stranahan is rather one note. Her character job appears to be only concerned leaving a performance that is lackluster. Cameron Deane Stewart is the only male that gets a significant role. He does well enough in his delivery to somewhat buy his character. Somewhat because he never really looks or acts guilty for what he done. The writing of the characters while not deep did paint a clear portrayal of how the actors should approach the role minus the substantial material do contribute much at all. Dirty Teacher (or High School Crush according to RT database) is a weak, routine tv drama movie with few good ideas. The performances are better than expected from a low budget production such as this, though are nothing worth pursuing the film to see.
I think Josie Davis is a terrible actress - she always acts like a ditzy airhead. However, the story was pretty creepy and entertaining. With a better leading lady, this could've been better.
