Movie Info

When Harvey hears that his old friend Lola has been forced to return home after years abroad he arranges to take her away for a weekend to the seaside cottag where they spent so much of their youth. What follows is a touching and beautiful story of an old friendship rekindled within a new context. Hinterland is a poetic journey of self-discovery and heartbreak in contemporary Britain. An original and visually stunning British road-trip film. Harry Macqueen's debut film is a tender and honest exploration of love and change.

So wispy and slight that it would only take a strong sneeze to blow it away, but its tender sensitivity is delicate and affecting enough to make one want to cup hands to protect it.

If what's been captured here is no more than a tiny moment -- a small respite or deviation from the norm -- Hinterland commits entirely to inhabiting and describing it.

Hinterland feels sparse and beautifully uncluttered.

A slight British drama, Hinterland is such an insubstantial wisp of a film that you barely register it.

Some winning performances but the astonishingly low budget and shaky script does make for distracting viewing at times.
