      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Sean Bean tries giving motive and emotion to The Hitcher, but director Dave Meyers is more interested in cheap shocks, and gratuitous gore and torture. Read critic reviews

God, this is a terrible remake of a great film! All of the main plot points and set pieces are present and correct but none come close to the 86 original and there is no way that Bean can replicate the great Rutger Hauer. Also the young couple (why a couple and not a single driver I have no idea!) are stereotypical Hollywood cattle and bring no depth to their characters. C Thomas Howell was never a great actor but 'The Hitcher' was his greatest moment on film and these guys don't come close to his talent! Avoid at all costs and stick to the 1986 film.

Bad remake of a good movie. Watch the 1986 version instead.
