Honky Tonk is an incredible film. It is about grifter Candy Johnson who rises to be the corrupt boss of Yellow Creek. Clark Gable and Lana Turner give excellent performances. The screenplay is well written. Jack Conway did a great job directing this movie. Honky Tonk is a must see.

Lana and Clark have great chemistry and make the simple script better than it really is. Frank Morgan add a great deal to the mix as her father.

Honky Tonk (1941)

Clark Gable plays a fast-talking, lovable rouge, Candy Johnson, who we just can't seem to get enough of. He's able to talk himself out of being tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail along with his partner in crime, Sniper (Chill Wills).

Candy is determined to change his small-change cons and think big. His next target, ah, town is Yellow Creek. He makes a deal with the local corrupt judge Cotton (Frank Morgan) and falls for his beautiful daughter, Elizabeth (Lana Turner).

Despite warnings not to marry Candy from the local saloon girl (and old friend), Gold Dust Nelson (Claire Trevor) that Candy will do her dirt, Elizabeth gets Candy drunk and tricks him into marrying her.

Soon Candy is becoming very rich and powerful in Gold Creek and he's getting kind of hard for Elizabeth to live with. You know that Candy's past will inevitably catch back up with him. Judge Cotton is going to come clean and try to take Candy down with him.
