What if you could talk to animals and understand what they're saying? I liked the fact that this is just about a person. And yes, she does jump into an animatronic beaver. That is true. But as a person, she's just a person. And I really, really liked Mabel as a lead character. I thought she was extremely appealing.

It's a comedy with some really great gags. One of them comes in the animal chosen as the protagonist. Director Daniel Chong isn't as crass in his humor. A lot of the jokes come from the brutality of the animal kingdom and the food chain.

It switches from Man vs Man to Nature vs Nature to Man vs Nature to Man vs Man vs Nature in a simplified story about encroachment with a sprinkle of feeling alone in scope and losing everything. Nods to previous Pixar easter eggs and Elio and The Wild Robot especially. A wild rollercoaster of tone for the third act. Just where did Mabel's parents go exactly??? And what other classes did she attend?
