The scenes where the ladies get ready are the best really highlighting the reality of this fantasy world. However, with a patchy script, the pace and interest soon start to wane and as an audience member you might think you've been hustled.

A rare misfire from Lorene Scafaria...

Wu is supposed to be the moral center, but there's a disconnect in her acting that doesn't quite hit the spot.

It ends up being a story that is sustained more by the images than by its argument. [Full Review in Spanish]

With the exception of Jennifer Lopez, woman in possession of a spectacular physique, I don't see the grace or the eroticism in the rest. And their victims are too silly. [Full Review in Spanish]

Like the PG dance numbers that have no bounce, Hustlers lacks excitement, bite. It wastes its soul and cultural responsibility in the name of "girl power".
November 5, 2019
Scafaria's direction (perhaps at the whim of her producers) feels squeamish, striving to frame her real-life figures not just as relatively minor offenders but as morally upright...Scafaria fails to trust her audience...
October 17, 2019
Kind of ironic how Hustlers has hustled a whole industry into thinking it was anything of worth.

Hustlers is an impressive showcase for J.Lo and a bunch of fresh new talent. But it's hard to shake the feeling that the actors, like their characters, are simply playing dress-ups.
October 12, 2019
It never fails to look tawdry, perhaps even slimy, although the script tries to conceal this with some feeble psychoanalysis of its protagonists and the suggestion that what we're watching is some kind of feminist drama - unconvincingly.

...the script and plot are dull and obvious. The attempted humour is anything but funny.

In spite of paying extra attention to a decade-old soundtrack punctuated with some solid performances, Hustlers never manages to rise above its truly feminist core to become an instant class act.

Sadly, none of the performances stood out, with Wu being the biggest disappointment.
September 21, 2019
The characters are awful and I felt icky rooting for such vile protagonists.
September 19, 2019
You might think this movie could be good BUTT it's not.
September 19, 2019
Sadly though, nothing sticks and it's easily forgotten soon after you see it.
September 17, 2019
Written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, the film isn't as lean as it should be. The scam plays out redundantly, again and again.
September 16, 2019
These women unapologetically love being rich, but they never seem to realise that attacking vile men isn't actually a way forward.

J-Lo is the only reason to see it.

And yet for all this it stubbornly refuses to come to life, hampered by a lack of sympathetic characters, a repetitive story and by Scafaria's apparent doubts as to who this distinctly tawdry tale belongs to.
