Not a great script, with Minnelli as a replacement director. Two segments are must see minutes though: Eleanor's rope dance and Red's attempt to put her to bed. Also of note are the musical segments with Lena Horne & Hazel Scott which were in the can when Minnelli came on board - just too good not to use.

This MGM musical is one of Vincente Minnelli's worst films and, although it has some fine musical moments (Powell's rope dance, Jimmy Dorsey & His Orchestra playing the hit "Star Eyes," Lena Horne & Hazel Scott performing "Jericho") - the movie never recovers from the tired comedy shtick of Red Skelton and a recycled finale lifted from BORN TO DANCE.

64/100. Comedy/Musical/Romance. This is a loose remake of Buster Keaton's "Spite Marriage". Red Skelton develops a crush on showgirl Eleanor Powell, and she marries him out of spite when she is jilted by her fiance. Fair film, uplifted by Skelton's comic antics. Mildly entertaining with a few good songs. It's fun but nothing sensational.
