It's poorly made, the acting is non-existent and it's overly violent and brutal. That being said, it's a wildly notorious film and its legacy is undeniable.

This is a film without a shred of artistic distinction. It lacks even simple craftsmanship. There is no possible motive for exhibiting it, other than the totally cynical hope that it might make money.

Simply another crudely made, explicitly violent '70s-era exploitation flick.

I Spit On Your Grave is more an over-hyped legend than a powerful motion picture -- it is less something to experience than something to talk about.

Director Meir Zarchi may have been trying to make a point about the horrors of rape, brutality, revenge, and reprisal, but he simply isn't a good enough director to extract any relevance or nuance from his exploitative material

Where the original really comes crashing down into a heap of garbage, though, is in the revenge angle.

Considering how many powerful people detested this movie, it's a testament to the film that it still even exists.

in the dualistic contours of the rape-revenge subgenre, Zarchi finds a way to position his characters and viewers alike as both aggressors and victims. The results are neither comfortable nor pretty, but they are certainly confronting.

A precise and damning indictment of male sexuality, perhaps the most stridently anti-masculine film ever made by a male filmmaker.
