i think this would be better if it was a vehicle for sonja hennie at 20th fox it would have been better
Ridiculous plot used as an excuse to make an ice skating movie. The ending is an ultra-vivid color ice musical sequence, and thirty-something, flame-haired Joan in color is literally breathtaking. Otherwise, this is a terrible movie. The 49th of 81 Joan films I've seen.
Certainty not the best Joan Crawford or James Stewart film out their; the movie seemed to be lacking something. But the skating scenes are spectacular.
Tipis & Totem poles - um no. Black face - um no. Jimmy Stewart - um no. Skating - no thanks. Even the movie in the movie sucked. Joan didn't even save it!
Good movie...kept me entertained and Jimmy Stewart was awesome as always! :)
Actually isn't as weird as you think it'd be--you hear "Joan Crawford and James Stewart as a skating team" and you think, "Well, that's...different." But it's really your standard Follies picture--melodrama wrapped up in choreography--except in this case, there's ice skating (and except for a shot of Stewart and Crawford skating off of a rink at the very beginning, neither really skates). There's a long show in colour at the end, and Lew Ayres is always great (well, almost always), but still, the movie's nothing special.
nice, but not exciting.
one of the finest follies movies since "follies".
awesome in technicolor!!!
joan did this stinker as a fav to mayor...but even she can't save this tired film. but she looks awesome in technicolor!!!
