Another "we're not crazy, because rich people are eccentric" movie. Not impressed.

interesting but too dark.

It sucks but I still like it. Whatever, get out of my face

A snarky teen feigns intelligence by critiquing the dispassionate hypocrisy of high society, while failing to realize his own self-absorption surpasses all the other characters.

Entertaining to watch from the very first scene to the last with an outstanding ensemble with Kieran Culkin, Claire Danes, Susan Sarandon, Bill Pullman, and Ryan Philipe

None of these characters are likable, but what makes them worse is that none of them are interesting.

Although it can't live up to its strong Catcher in the Rye overtures, Igby Goes Down is scathingly witty and cynical enough to be as engaging as it is dismissive, just like its titular character.

Igby: It's ironic that the first time in my life that I feel remotely affectionate for her, is when she's dead.
Oliver: You beat up her corpse.
Igby: I know, but after that.

The Catcher in the Rye comparison is valid. And I really did not like The Catcher in the Rye.

Despicable and cold-blooded. I hated it! How can anybody identify with this cruel movie? (First and only viewing - 7/25/2008)

I'll probably need to watch it again, I only casually paid attention to it.

an intelligent and interesting teenage drama about a boy going through life changes while his dysfunctional family is falling apart. Well directed, well acted this film benefits from a good story and some well written dialogues.

Igby Goes Down has a smug sense of insight (on account of its incredibly well-written script), but it never loses sight of its characters' humanity, effectively setting up a wonderfully layered plot with deft performances from a perfect cast.

Igby Goes Down is an example of how to put a star-studded cast to good use. Culkin gives a distinguished performance because he understands the dark humor and knows the right amount of emotion to put into a scene. An all-around decent film.

A spoiled rich kid has a self-induced crummy life. Flatly acted by Kieran Culkin and bereft of any character development. There is nothing redeeming about this film.
August 13, 2013
Kieran Culkin is fantastic, and the screenplay is a work of art.

Terrific character piece. The writing is great. The actors pull off their roles really well for the most part, but timing is off at times.

It truly did feel like a modern day Catcher and the Rye.

One of the most underrated films of 2002.

Not bad, kind of poorly put together though.
