Includes too much obvious padding.

It tries to impersonate a much better movie, but even a twist at the end cannot make it compelling.

A great cast can't save the poor script.

Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, the new idiot-fest known as Impostor is about as entertaining as the second of two bologna sandwiches.

It's of the quality of a lesser Harrison Ford movie - Six Days, Seven Nights, maybe, or that dreadful Sabrina remake.

By the time the predictable twists present themselves, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone watching who still cares. Or anyone still watching, for that matter.

There's one thing you can say about Imposter - it does have the appropriate title. Fleder's ill-conceived actioner flick poses as a thriving sci-fi adventure but its real identity is that of a glossy-looking, predictable lukewarm futuristic yarn.

The film goes from being an unusual sci-fi character study to a chase flick that detracts from its ending.

It's a mindless action flick with a twist -- far better suited to video-viewing than the multiplex.

Basically a padded-out Outer Limits episode, repetitive chase scenes and useless exposition skim it past the 90-minute mark.

The editing is pointlessly hyperkinetic, never settling for a single camera angle when five, cut together in rapid succession, are available, and cramming nearly every scene with jump-cuts, flashbacks and jarring perspectives.

It's a big production, but the movie feels somewhat counterfeit.

In the transition from prescient work of fiction to pummelling popcorn flick, Impostor seems to have had its soul hijacked.

Unless there are zoning ordinances to protect your community from the dullest science fiction, Impostor is opening today at a theater near you.

In the end, alas, the obvious interests of an actor of Sinise's range and depth are subsumed to the blunt demands of a standardized chase movie.
