What to Know

Critics Consensus

If Out of the Further's modest efforts to put a fresh spin on Insidious only serve to underline how formulaic this franchise has become, some chilling set pieces distinguish it as one of the most effective entries yet.

The Insidious films may have offered diminishing returns since the original, but Out Of The Further is a decent instalment packing some hair-raising scares. Go to Full Review

Insidious: Out of the Further might be dumb and predictable in its broad strokes, but as a shock engine it’s occasionally clever, especially in its early going. Go to Full Review

After a while the film’s sustained creepiness gives way to self-parody, with all the grotesquely made-up performers portraying the demonic figures starting to look like exhausted Comic-Con attendees after a very long weekend. Go to Full Review

While there are many great writing moments, the film's rushed final act leaves many characters with a blunt ending. Nevertheless, Insidious: Out of the Further is a worthy entry in a franchise that balances expectations with nostalgia and horror. Go to Full Review

Side note: Insidious: Out of the Further will probably discourage many impressionable souls from a career in dentistry. The good news is, if they can handle this movie and still go into the dental field, they’ll be unstoppable. Go to Full Review

Demitria C 3h Had my daughter jumping See more Andrew D 5h It was good, but I would have loved for Specs and Tucker to be part of it. Side characters were generic and personally did not enjoy the main evil spirit. See more Rob B 5h Definitely had some jump scares and was a new take on the Insidious franchise. It had a lot of body horror which was a different than the deeper psychological side of the previous movies. See more Ashley Q 7h I appreciated the creative ways to continue spooking the audience, and unconventional jump scares and more reliance on the elements of being creepy in a more subtle way. But, the plot was too weak for me, the villain was also not convincingly evil enough for me to fear, and the lead actress did not really sell the character as well as prior leads in the Insidious 1 and 2 films did. See more Danny 9h Several good jump scares but the overall movie felt desperate for scary scenes and overkill with the story. It is past time to end this saga! See more Tony G 10h Definitely a must see!!! It’s a great movie. !!! So thrilling ! See more Read all reviews
