Isle of Dogs is probably one of director Wes Anderson's weirdest movies, but a great voice cast, a fantastic animation style, and a fun little story make this production hugely enjoyable to watch.

As far as the visuals go, it's brilliantly done...Cute and quirky.

Essentially, this is a fun tale with more than a few head-scratching moments. Still, if you don't look too deep or analyze it too closely, you will have a good time.

Isle of Dogs is a testament to the urgent need for animated movies to address socio-political context.

A quasi-futuristic society places old grudges above good intentions in this vivid and arresting animated feature from Wes Anderson, "Isle of Dogs."

Isle of Dogs is pure Wes Anderson in all the best ways. It is a smart and funny story, filled with nuance and idiosyncrasy; charming and quirky and beautiful to look at. A weird, wonderful delight.

Just like "Fantastic Mr. Fox", this is another funny, clever, and imaginative animated fable.

The resulting whole is immensely touching and fun. Yet beneath the film's whimsical surface it is not hard to detect some serious points being made about fearmongering and scapegoating that are all too timely.

A delight, thanks to an impressive voice cast, the Japanese-inspired design (a source of some controversy, these appropriations motivate further flattening of Anderson's Cornell-box-like compositions) and the uncanny charm of the stop-motion process.

While this may not be one of Anderson's very best works, it's still a brilliant, charismatic, beautiful looking movie.

Leave it to the wonderfully over-inventive talents of Wes Anderson to cobble together an animated feature that brings new meaning to 'going to the dogs'.

It's an overwhelming experience to see how man and dog have magnetic pulls on one another, but the journey to get to that place of trust isn't as easy as giving a dog a bit of a "Puppy Snap."

The film's sense of real and lethal peril - its diorama-like unreality notwithstanding - is eminently fitting for a story that is so keenly attuned to the distinctive angst of the human-canine relationship.
