Audience Reviews for Monstroid: It Came from the Lake

Cheesy monster, dull characters, an average plot, yet it's fun. I have a weak spot for these old monster movies, the goofier then better. Granted, the entire film isn't too watchable, but it has its camp monsters and a wonderful monster movie ending.

Also known as Monster, Monstroid: It Came From the Lake was a film marred by all kinds of production woes and problems. The film started shooting in 1971 and was finally completed and released in 1979. Though it had its problems, Monster is actually a decent B-movie style monster movie about an American concrete mixing plant in Mexico (where the locals all speak Spanglish, even to each other when there are no Americans around!) where pollution is killing the lake and even creating a giant dragon monster that eats the locals. The ensemble cast includes Jim Mitchum as a companyman sent in to fix the problem and John Carradine as the local priest. The movie is definitely entertaining if you are into the likes of films like the Crater Lake Monster or any other Jaw-rip off type film. The creature, itself, looks absolutely hilarious and about as threatening as a butterfly. Fun movie for B-movie enthusiasts only.
