Movie Info

Pieter Kramer's musical comedy Ja Zuster Nee Zuster (Yes Nurse! No Nurse!) is an adaptation of a popular 1960s Dutch television series. Loes Luca portrays Klivia, who runs a nursing home filled with colorful eccentrics. Complicating Klivia's life is professional thief Gerrit (Waldemar Torenstra), who is pursuing her daughter, Jet (Tjitske Reidinga). Boordevol (Paul R. Kooij) lives near the nursing home and constantly brings legal complaints against Klivia due to the noise coming from the nursing home. Yes Nurse! No Nurse! was screened in competition at the 2003 Berlin Film Festival.

A campy, brightly colored musical comedy based on a popular '60s Dutch sitcom that's unlike any other film out there.

This nonsensical Dutch movie musical rides on the dubious assumption that camp and infantilism are the same thing.

Styles range from cabaret to barbershop to toe-tapping bubblegum, and the rainy-day serenade at the start nods Cherbourgward, with a soupçon of Low Countries sass.

At once corny and precious, its humor seems too heavily ethnic to travel well.

This cranky non-Dutchman came to wish the director had cut a couple of tunes: A little of this goes a long way.

Audience Reviews for Ja zuster, nee zuster (Yes Nurse! No Nurse!)

One of my favorite movies of all time, this off-kilter Dutch musical has all the shiny camp of a John Waters film but with none of the smarm.

Hilarious movie! Don't worry about the subtitles because you don't noticed them. The movie is too funny!
