Movie Info

This documentary is the story of Jack Kerouac. Kerouac was born on March 12, 1922, and became a chief proponent for the "beat generation," a term which he coined to describe the beatnik subculture of the 1950s. Along with such luminaries as Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti , Kerouac expressed deep disillusionment with the materialism of American culture. He gained fame for his book On the Road, which chronicles his adventures on a cross-country journey from the east to the west coast. The book's spontaneous prose style describes a scene in which mysticism, drugs and alcohol use, and hedonism play a large part. With the use of photographs and interviews, the film paints a portrait of this author and pop icon.
