George Hamilton plays a handsome jewel thief in this very 1960s looking heist film, but it's all pretty bland. It's nowhere as stylish as say, "Danger Diabolik" and it's nowhere is suspenseful as any number of similar Jules Dassin jewel heist films. You do get Zsa Zsa Gabor, Carroll Baker, Lilli Palmer all playing themselves in the film and being robbed by Hamilton, but that's really not a reason to watch this film. Watch "Topkapi" or "Rififi" instead.
Jack of Diamonds is decent film. It is about the protege of a famous cat burglar reluctantly agrees to join forces with a lesser criminal in the daring heist of several famous jewels from a seemingly impenetrable vault. George Hamilton and Joseph Cotten give good performances. The script is a little slow places but still entertaining. Don Taylor did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama.
good crime caper pic
