Excellent south african gangster story. Really gives a new dimension to the conflicts of the kids growing up in hard times over there. Nicely done.

Brilliant film - City of God in South Africa.

This gritty, warm, heartfelt film captures the crime life of Hillbrow, inner city South Africa brilliantly, producing a film almost worthy of City of God note. It was interesting, entertaining and excellently unique and real, a great cult find for 2011. I would add that it is somewhat following themes and other film influences, but for most this will be forgotten and simply enjoyed for it's individuality.

The film tells the tale of 'Lucky', a boy growing up in a crime riddled city, beginning with car-jacking and ending in extortion. The characters are good, likeable and the film delivers continuously. This is no Scarface or Goodfellas, as it is less brutal and flashy, being more like City of God and Gomorrah in style. Give it a go!

Awesome South African flick. Don't let the cover of the DVD box fool you. This is not a mindless celebration of violence.

Great film at capturing the life of Lucky. It showed how he started off stealing cars & becoming the #1 GTA and watching the one who taught him die. Then he moved to a new city & became smart. Taking over abandoned buildings through the Governments cracks. But has a situation w/ a drug lord who killed his childhood friend. Who he avenged, but got busted for murder. Went to prison & then busted out. A must watch. Some subtitles involved.

Very, very good film. Great story.

Writer-director Ralph Ziman strings it all together with slick competence, but given that leading man Rapulana Seiphemo does a persuasive line in moral ambiguity, it's disappointing that the proceedings too often default to glib shoot-'em-up.

Excellent story. Supposedly based on true events.

Story is about a slumlord that built an empire using intelligence and organization capabilities shown by true entrepreneur.

Lead actor 'Rapulana Seiphemo' has acted very well and carried the entire movie on his shoulders. He has excellent screen presence.

Direction of movie is very good. Watch it, you will not be disappointed. Not a violent movie, but advisable not to watch in front of kids and teenagers with impressionable minds.

This film is about gangs in South Africa after apartie. It is a well made film and very informative. Some brief nudity and all the different emotions you could ask for. Base on actual persons. See it.

I love stories about gangsters from TRULY hard places like Africa or South America, because they make American street thugs look like complete weenies. "Boyz In The Hood" has nothing on a film like this, or "Tsotsi" or "City Of God".

Ziman is rather too enthusiastic in his appropriation of other people's images; the film can't shake the feel of a competent knock-off. Yes, there's a shootout in a stripjoint where anonymous female extras grind toplessly; yes, Lucky is pursued by a racist police chief (with the ironic name "Blackie" Zwart). This wouldn't matter so much, if it didn't align filmmaker and anti-hero as cloesly as it does: in an early scene, we watch Lucky studying a VHS of "Heat"'s meticulous armored-car robbery in order to plot a heist of his own. Belatedly, Lucky gets a ticking-off from his mother for his actions, but it's a fat lot of heed he pays it, and I simply was never convinced "Jerusalema" had either the moral framework or directorial intelligence in place to prevent a whole new wave of up-and-coming hoods from going through the DVD with their fingers poised over the pause button, thinking: hey, *I* can do that.

recommend it for anyone that like gangsta movies. hustling to the max in the streets of Africa.. a struggle to grow up with the realities of life.

harsh situation brings out the best in people, from a taxi driver to owning millions. a story of a true hustler, corrupt cops, finding love, loosing love having everything then loosing everything. a roller coaster rid,

entertaining and captivating throughout.

Super actiefilm!

Great South African crime drama. Excellent plot: gritty and believable. Well directed and acted.

It's no 'City of God', which it clearly aspires to be, but it's an OK story. Let down by lame acting.

The South-African 'City of God'. Already strong on its own merits, when one adds to it the ridiculously low budget with which it was shot, this is a true gem, although not a flawless one.

a more than decent crime thriller.
