Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema Reviews
This gritty, warm, heartfelt film captures the crime life of Hillbrow, inner city South Africa brilliantly, producing a film almost worthy of City of God note. It was interesting, entertaining and excellently unique and real, a great cult find for 2011. I would add that it is somewhat following themes and other film influences, but for most this will be forgotten and simply enjoyed for it's individuality.
The film tells the tale of 'Lucky', a boy growing up in a crime riddled city, beginning with car-jacking and ending in extortion. The characters are good, likeable and the film delivers continuously. This is no Scarface or Goodfellas, as it is less brutal and flashy, being more like City of God and Gomorrah in style. Give it a go!
Story is about a slumlord that built an empire using intelligence and organization capabilities shown by true entrepreneur.
Lead actor 'Rapulana Seiphemo' has acted very well and carried the entire movie on his shoulders. He has excellent screen presence.
Direction of movie is very good. Watch it, you will not be disappointed. Not a violent movie, but advisable not to watch in front of kids and teenagers with impressionable minds.
