Johnny Was has little going for it besides attitude. Ah, but what attitude.

Audience Reviews for Johnny Was

In general, interesting story about a guy who wants to leave his past with an Irish separatist organization. Interesting characters and good acting all around.

The action can't really replace the stupidiy of the story. The acting is somewhat b rated and the action at that also ain't all that but i would be lieing if i said that this movie completely sucked. It was a fun movie but towards the end it did seem a little outplayed. Decent but was expecting more i guess

Johnny is a former criminal who has turned his life around; but when two of his former colleagues escape from jail and arrive on his doorsteps, things become complicated. The crack head’s drug dealer gets in cahoots with Johnny’s previous associates and everyone starts screwing each other. Johnny tries to decide what is more important to him, his past or his future. The storyline for this film had potential based on its cast and multiple plots. However, despite an excellent cast that included Vinnie Jones (one of my favorites), Samantha Mumba (one of my favorites to look at ever since I saw her in Time Machine), Lennox Lewis (yes, the boxer), and Eriq La Salle (ER & Coming to America), the film was not as good as I had hoped. The ending was poorly written and La Salle’s character was frustrating and delivered poorly. This aired last night on the Movie Channel and I was surprised at how bad this film turned out. The first half of the movie displayed great potential; however, the getaway sequence at the end of the movie was horrendous. Plus, you never really felt the connection between Mumba and La Salle (I also have a hard time seeing Mumba as a crack addict). Nevertheless, I do not recommend wasting your time seeing this picture…even if you like Mumba as much as me. ;) “Live by the drug die by the drug.” Grade: C-
