Movie Info

Seventeen-year-old Daniela is obsessed with sex. But her self-proclaimed "pussy in flames" is in direct conflict with her well-to-do, strict evangelical family in Santiago, Chile. She finds an outlet by detailing her naughty ruminations and exploits on her blog "Young & Wild" to her eager online followers. She dates handsome and pious Tomas, but maybe Antonia, the really cute girl at work, is more her speed. As she struggles to balance both relationships, Daniela learns that having it all - sex, love and eternal salvation - is more complicated than she ever imagined. (c) IFC Films

Critic Reviews for Joven y alocada (Young and Wild)

The film's sexual intelligence is undone by a paralyzing voice-over and an encroaching case of the blahs.

The young actors' vacant-eyed brazenness may be true to life, but there's a whiff of exploitation, matched by the script's disinterest in exploring any friction that isn't skin on skin.

A film that respects sex and the emotional consequences that follow once the heat wears off. It also is not a condemnation piece about religion even as it calmly exposes the hypocrisies of suppressing the natural order in order to let go of one's ego.

Audience Reviews for Joven y alocada (Young and Wild)

Mildly provocative, girly shoegaze from Chile; well-lit and subtitled gets it 3 stars plus a half star bump for a scene with an evangelical Bouncing Souls-like band.

Growing up is hard. Harder still when ones hormones are raging and ones parents are fervent evangelical Christians in Chile and everything around you tries to force you into the mold that doesn't quite fit. Daniela's outlet is a blog she hosts in which she writes about her escapades and her followers contribute their thoughts. What a messed up family, and Daniela is determined to go her own way, finding an ally in her aunt who is dying of cancer and seems able to deflect Daniela's mother from her more draconian pronouncements. Strong characters and an interesting take on the coming of age chestnut made this an enjoyable diversion. A few plot holes, but nothing critical.

Anxiety & confusion of a coming-of-age girl with religious background. Trying to speak in youngsters' language but just turns out to superficial & cliched.
